jessicainjapan: (Paper Lanterns)
I chatted with a friend today about some of the things that she thought would be a good idea to do before leaving. Here's some of the pearls of wisdom I've gleaned from that conversation:
Also: reasons why my friend is amazing and helpful. )

I'll update again as I find out more and solidify my list of things to do and things to pack. Until then...!

This will hopefully be the first of many entries that will mainly take place in Japan.

Today I found out that I will be recommended for an ALT position in Japan (I'll hold off on specifics until everything is completely confirmed). I'm excited to start this new chapter of my life and I can't wait to see what interesting things I'll learn about once I'm in Japan and teaching. While I was studying at my university, I always found that teaching someone else what I studied was the best way to learn the material myself.

In other words... this should be the best learning experience!

On another note, it's a little surreal getting all of the happy, congratulatory phone calls. I'll enjoy them now before the time for goodbyes comes around.

I'll update a few more times before Japan with my progress and preparations in case my process is useful to anyone else going abroad to teach for the first time.

See everyone later!
